I recently found this photograph in the Daily Herald Archive/Popperfoto/Getty Images Library. I don’t think it is known to any historians, film critics or literary critics working on Greenwood, and I think may be the only photo showing writer, film director and two of the actors rehearsing a scene in the film on the set at Rock Studio, Elstree. I suspect it was never published, so it is perhaps more unknown than forgotten despite being in plain sight on the Getty Images site. Jarché was a famous and distinguished press photographer, and I think it is an intriguing piece of work in its own right, as well as giving us some insight into the film production process.
