This is a unique record of a response by two ‘ordinary’ (if perhaps fictional) Yorkshire folk to Greenwood and Gow’s play in its pre-London regional tour in 1934. The play moved them a great deal, as the columnist ‘W.L.A.’ reported in the Leeds Mercury on 19th May 1934.
By mid-November I’ll add a further new article about the first audiences for the play of Love on the Dole which will put the Buslingthorpes’ response into a wider context.
Best Chris.
