In 2018 in my (rather long) article about all known dust-wrappers and cover designs for all the editions of all Walter Greenwood’s published works I gave an account of the Czech translation’s striking dust-wrapper by the very well-known Czech artist known as Toyen (1902-1980). However, I missed something: if you removed the dust-wrapper (which I hadn’t) there is a second image on the actual book cover, which is in dialogue with the dust-wrapper image. It has taken seven years but I have now taken off the dust-wrapper, found the hidden image, and briefly analysed how the two work together to suggest the key themes in Love on the Dole, or to give it its Czech title, Láska Na Podporu.
